The Fraser Canyon ...

The Fraser Canyon is one of BC's greatest natural & historical wonders... the canyon has been carved-out over millions of years, and travels through the heart of BC's land and history.

The Fraser Canyon played a central role in the European settlement of British Columbia... the Fraser River is steeped in mostly forgotten history from the 1800's and 1900's, although remnants of the canyons' history is around for those who wish to search for it, such as the Great Gold Rushes to BC which swelled the town of Yale BC during the 1800's to among the largest cities east of Chicago and north of San Francisco, although Yale largely fell back into obscurity with the end of the Gold Rush, and little remains in the town today that would still convey it's early ranking in North American population.

The Canyon also has a history of indigenous settlement that dates back for thousands of years... in fact, even today, dozens of first nations bands inhabit the banks and upper benches of the Fraser River... although, much of their ancient history has also largely been forgotten or lost in time... incidents like the Fraser Canyon War of of 1858. It is still possible to see some of the older/traditional native fishing spots and Salmon racks along the Fraser if you know where to look.
